The CE mark (CE stands for ‘Conformite Europeenne’, which translated literally means ‘European Conformity’) is a products passport for entry into the EEA (European Economic Area). It indicates that the product complies with the requirements of the applicable European Directive.
For construction products such as suspended ceilings the European Directive that matters is the Construction Products Directive (89/106/EEC).
The CPD identifies certain essential requirements for products (and total projects) to ensure they are fit for intended use. They are:
- Mechanical resistance and stability
- Safety in case of fire
- Hygiene, health and environment
- Safety in use
- Protection against noise
- Energy economy and heat retention
CE and Me – What This Means
It is now mandatory for all suspended ceilings and accompanying suspension systems (in the scope of EB 13964) to carry the CE mark and the accompanying essential requirement test information. That means that all suspended ceilings and suspended ceiling accessories within the scope of the Directive must pass and keep passing stringent tests.
Non-CE marked materials are no longer saleable into the EEA.
This means that Judge can and does only uses materials that conform to the Directive. It’s yet another guarantee of the quality and safety of suspended ceilings from Judge.
